Advocacy

MJUMITA is a powerful voice for the forest adjacent rural poor of Tanzania and has already achieved significant success in negotiating for improved forest governance in forest and land uses.

MJUMITA has put issues around community rights in participatory forest management more firmly on the political agenda by working successfully with journalists to generate newspaper, radio and television coverage on the issues related to participatory forest management and by raising their concerns with politicians and civil servants.

MJUMTA annual forum brings together representatives from all networks to interact with national government leaders through which their voices are also heard. Building on the success, the networks are ready to engage proactively in advocating for greater accountability at all levels of government in relation to forest governance.
