Capacity building and Community Development
MJUMITA supports capacity building of local communities to engage meaningfully in the decision making processes regarding the management of forests under local and national authorities. The National Forest Policy of 1998 and the Forest Act of 2002 empowers local communities to be managers of the forest surrounding them through participatory forest management approach.
MJUMITA facilitates them to interact, learn and increase the managerial skills of their forest. MJUMITA supports forest adjacent communities to establish and implement environmental related income generating activities in order to reduce pressure on forest. Supported activities include beekeeping, tree planting, mushroom farms and Village Savings and Loans scheme (VSL). Also, MJUMITA provides backstopping services to communities implementing community development projects like construction of village offices, dispensaries, water projects, classrooms, etc.
